No. 19 Bears Take Down Wolf Pack

Cal Defeats Nevada, Finishes Midweek Slate Unbeaten

BERKELEY – Tatum Anzaldo drove in a pair of runs and recorded two hits as the No. 19 California softball team beat Nevada, 5-1, on Wednesday afternoon at Levine-Fricke Field to close out its midweek slate unbeaten.

Tianna Bell and Elon Butler also drove in a run for the Golden Bears (34-15). Maile Olsen hit a home run for the Wolf Pack (38-15).

Haylei Archer continued her string of strong performances in midweek games, allowing just a single with four strikeouts through the third inning. Nevada starter Carley Brown matched Archer pitch for pitch through her first three frames, allowing just a leadoff single to Lagi Quiroga.

Cal finally broke through in the bottom of the fourth when Butler laced a two-out RBI double off the wall in right field to score Anzaldo after she started the frame with a single. The lead was short-lived for the Bears as Olsen hit a leadoff solo shot in the fifth to tie the game at 1-1.

The Bears answered in the home half of the frame with a big two-out rally, taking the lead on Anzaldo's 2-run double and adding another run on a Tianna Bell RBI single. Ryann Orange came on in relief to start the sixth and Cal added an unearned run in the bottom of the inning as Orange worked the final two frames to earn her third save of the year.

Archer improved to 10-5 on the year in the circle after going five innings while allowing just one run on four hits with five strikeouts.
