Bears Earn Five NFCA All-Region Honors

Most For Program Since 2015 Season

Five student-athletes on the California softball team earned All-Region recognition for their efforts this season as announced by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association on Thursday.

Third baseman Tatum Anzaldo, second baseman Elon Butler and catcher Lagi Quiroga were selected to the Pacific Region First Team, while pitcher Haylei Archer and first baseman Tianna Bell earned third-team honors.

Cal's five All-Region accolades are the most for the program since 2015 and Anzaldo earned her third straight honor after being named second team in 2022 and 2023.

Anzaldo, a fifth-year leader and team captain, put the finishing touches on one of the greatest careers in Cal history this season with her third straight All-Region honor. She becomes the first Cal player since Jazmyn Jackson in 2015-17 to earn three consecutive honors. The Whittier native collected her 200th career hit at Fresno State on April 17 and is on track to finish in the top five in program history in batting average. Anzaldo's current .408 average is the best mark of her career.

Butler made a big jump from her freshman season in 2023 to her sophomore year, turning in a .361 batting average (third on team) and tying for the Pac-12 home run crown with 16. She's currently tied for fifth on the Cal single-season list in home runs with Haley Woods (2004/06), Danielle Henderson (2012), Cheyenne Cordes (2015) and Makena Smith (2023). The San Jose native finished second in the conference in total bases (111) just one behind Pac-12 Player of the Year Maya Brady of UCLA.

Quiroga burst onto the scene in her first season with the Bears, tying Butler for the team and Pac-12 lead with 16 home runs. Mainly hitting out of the leadoff spot, Quiroga holds a .311 average and is second behind only Butler (sixth Pac-12) with a .689 slugging percentage. Holding it down as Cal's everyday catcher behind the plate, the Los Angeles native led the conference in runners caught stealing (12) and picked off (5).

Archer and Bell both receive their first All-Region honors after standout senior and sophomore years, respectively. Archer saved her best season for last, posting a 2.86 earned run average while finishing eighth in the conference in wins (11) and strikeouts (93). The Columbus, New Jersey, native was seventh in the Pac-12 with 120.1 innings pitched and third in games started (21). Bell saw a big improvement from her 2023 numbers as a freshman, turning in a .310 batting average and tying for seventh in the conference with 12 home runs. Hailing from Antioch, Bell drove in 32 runs, third on the team, and was fourth with a .600 slugging percentage.
