Former Cal Swimmers Qualify For Summer Olympics
Bagshaw, Hatch Punch Their Tickets To Paris
Former California men's swimmers Jeremy Bagshaw and Jarod Hatch have punched their tickets to compete in the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris.
Bagshaw earned a spot on the Canadian Olympic Team with a fourth-place finish in the 200-meter freestyle event at last week's Canadian Olympic Trials. He will be part of Team Canada's 4x200 relay team in Paris. The Olympic berth was a long time coming for Bagshaw, who narrowly missed out on an Olympic roster spot multiple times.
Bagshaw was an All-American swimmer at Cal who helped the Golden Bears win the NCAA championship in 2014. He ranks in the program's all-time top 10 in the 500 free, 1,000 free and 1,650 free. Bagshaw is 32 and recently completed medical school at the University of Limerick.
Hatch qualified for The Philippines in the 100 butterfly. He helped the Bears win the NCAA championship in 2019 and set the Philippines national record in the 100 butterfly last year with a mark of 52.91. He was also a bronze medalist at last year's Southeast Asia Games in the 50 butterfly.Â
Cal's men's swimming program now has six alumni who have qualified for the Paris Games – along with Bagshaw and Hatch,
Lucas Henveaux (Belgium), Hugo Gonzalez (Spain), Bjorn Seeliger (Sweden) and
Ziyad Saleem (South Sudan) are also all on their way to the 2024 Summer Olympics, which run July 26-Aug. 11.
