Lomativa Earns Third-Team Honors; Moutzouridis Named Second-Team Freshman All-American
A pair of California baseball players picked up All-America honors Wednesday morning. Junior catcher Caleb Lomavita was named a Third-Team All-American by Perfect Game, while freshman shortstop PJ Moutzouridis was named to the Freshman All-American Second Team.
This is the second time Lomavita has earned All-America honors. He was named a Freshman All-American by Collegiate Baseball in 2022. This is the first career All-America honor for Moutzouridis.
The native of Ewa Beach, Hawaii, slashed .322/.395/.586 with 15 home runs and 52 RBI while starting in all 55 games – including 48 behind the dish.
The 2024 Pac-12 All-Defensive Team honoree put up career bests in average (.322), runs scored (51), hits (73), doubles (13), RBI (52) and on-base percentage (.395). He is one of 10 catchers nationally to steal 10 or more bases and hit 10 or home runs. He finished the year with 12 stolen bases on 16 attempts.
A mainstay at the top of the Golden Bear lineup, Lomavita currently ranks seventh in program history with 37 home runs. He also ranks tied for ninth on Cal's all-time list with 141 RBI.
Moutzouridis played and started every game at shortstop for the Bears in 2024. He hit .299 for the year, and his 66 hits – which ranked fourth on the team - put him on Cal's all-time top 10 list for hits in a single season by a freshman. He scored 43 runs while clubbing 15 doubles, a triple, and six home runs.
The San Jose native has more multi-hit games (22) than games with multiple strikeouts this season. He hit .397 to lead off an inning and .394 with runners in scoring position.
