INDIANAPOLIS – California swimming affiliates made a thorough mark on the 2024 United States Olympic Trials on Tuesday at Lucas Oil Stadium, sending seven swimmers to Wednesday finals with multiple Olympic berths on the line.

On the men's side, three Golden Bears advanced to the finals of both the 100-meter freestyle and 200-meter butterfly. Rising senior Jack Alexy – the top seed in the event – set a U.S. Open record in the prelims of the 100 free with a time of 47.08 before placing second in the semifinals. He will be joined in the final by Hunter Armstrong, a former member of Cal's postrgrad training group who placed fourth in both the prelims and semis, and rising senior Destin Lasco, who was fifth in both sessions leading into the finals.

The winner of each event at the Olympic Trials earns a spot at next month's Summer Olympics in Paris, and each runner-up is also heavily favored to make the national team as well.

In the men's 200-meter butterfly, rising senior Dare Rose finished third in the prelims and fourth in the semis while alum Colby Mefford also advanced to the finals with a sixth-place finish in the semifinals after entering the event as the No. 16 seed. Fellow alum Trenton earned the eighth and final spot in Wednesday's final.

Alumna Abbey Weitzeil opened her quest for a third straight Olympic berth with a strong performance in the 100-meter freestyle. Weitzeil, a four-time Olympic medalist as a relay swimmer, placed second in the prelims and fifth in the semifinals to punch her ticket to the finals of the event.

Wednesday will be a busy day for the Golden Bears. In addition to their seven finalists, Cal will have five men in the 200-meter backstroke, including top-seed and 2016 gold medalist Ryan Murphy. Lasco is the No. 2 seed in the event while rising sophomore Keaton Jones is seeded seventh. Fellow sophomore Humberto Najera and Mefford will also compete in the 200 back.

Murphy already earned a spot in the Paris Olympics earlier this week by winning the 100-meter backstroke.

On the women's side, alumna Rachel Klinker will begin competition in the 200 butterfly – an event in which she finished fourth at the World Championships in February. Rising senior Abby Herscu will swim in the 200-meter breaststroke.
