Men’s Rowing Collects Academic Honors

16 Bears Named IRCA Scholar-Athletes

BERKELEY – The California men's rowing team placed 16 student-athletes on the Intercollegiate Rowing Coaches Association (IRCA) Scholar-Athletes list this week. The total marks the most of any Pac-12 team and sixth most in the country among heavyweight programs.
 
Eight of the 16 rowers earned the honor multiple times over their career with Tommy Barrell, Grant Fisher, Bret Holt and Luca Vieira leading the way, having made the list three times.
 
In order to be named a "scholar athlete," rowers and coxswains must have met the following criteria:
 
  • Athletes from all IRCA Member Schools are eligible
  • Athletes must be in their second year or more of eligibility
  • Athletes must have competed in their program's top three boats during the current season or raced at the 2022 IRA Championship.
  • Athletes must have, at least, a 3.50 cumulative GPA through fall semester.
