INDIANAPOLIS – Abbey Weitzeil highlighted a strong showing by California on Saturday night at the 2024 United States Olympic Trials at Lucas Oil Stadium.
 
Weitzeil swam in the opening heat of the semifinals of the 50-meter freestyle and finished comfortably in first with a time of 24.48 – almost two-tenths faster than second-place finisher Catie Deloof, who took second with a time of 24:66.
 
The Golden Bear alumna will be seeded third overall in Sunday evening's finals.
 
On the men's side, Dare Rose took third in the final of the men's 100-butterfly with a time of 50.84. Rose was out-touched by second-place finisher Thomas Heilman by four-hundredths of a second.
 
The native of Jersey City, NJ was fifth at the turn with a split of 24.10. He came on strong in the second 50 but could not hold off the hard-charging Heilman from lane one.
 
Ryan Murphy finished in sixth in the 100-fly. Murphy was in second place at the turn with a blistering opening split of 23.85, he finished with a time of 51.46.
 
The Olympic Trials will conclude on Sunday evening with the finals of the women's 50-meter freestyle and the men's 1500-meter freestyle. Weitzeil is looking to secure her bid for her third Olympic games.
