Lindfors Finishes 10th At First European Championships
Rising Senior Holds Cal Discus Record
ROME – California track & field's Caisa-Marie Lindfors, representing her native Sweden at the European Championships, took to the ring at Rome's Stadio Olimpico for the second day in a row on Saturday as one of Europe's 12 finals qualifiers. Lindfors posted a mark of 60.28m (197-9) in the final, good for a respectable 10th place, after throwing 61.22m (200-10) in Friday's qualifying round.
Croatia's Sandra Elkasevic, who posted the top mark in the qualifier, took home the gold with a season-best throw of 67.04m (219-11), followed by the Netherlands' Jorinde van Klinken (65.99m/216-6) and Portugal's Liliana Cá (64.53m/211-8).
Lindfors will now turn her attention to the Swedish Championships, scheduled for June 28-30, where she hopes to reach the Olympic standard and qualify for the 2024 Olympic Games. Meanwhile, four other Bears - alums
Anna Purchase (Great Britain), Georgia Bell (Great Britain) and Tuomas Kaukolahti (Finland), as well as incoming freshman Valentina Savva (Cyprus) - begin competition tomorrow at the European Championships; Purchase will throw in Group A of the women's hammer qualifier, scheduled for 1:05 a.m. PT, while Savva will appear in Group B of the same event (2:30 a.m. PT) and Kaukolahti in Group B of the men's triple jump qualifier (1:45 a.m. PT). Bell, who qualified for the 1500m final with a time of 4:12.01, will race for a European title at 1:40 p.m. PT.
