2025 Recruiting Class Arrives In Berkeley

The California lacrosse team will welcome 10 freshmen to the 2025 squad, a group that combined to earn eight All-America prep selections, nine All-State honors and helped their teams capture five state titles.

The freshman group includes Audrey Crafts, Willow Cyr, Naomi Gan, Ardyn Henry, Alina Hsu, Charlie Iacobelli, Ashleigh Masterson, Ella Thomsen, Dahlen Vilbrandt and Isabella Wenstrand.

 "Each of these student-athletes not only embodies the physical attributes we seek, but also demonstrates the dedication and work ethic that will elevate our program to new heights," head coach Jennifer Wong said. "As we approach our inaugural season in the ACC, these 10 individuals bring a new wave of energy and excitement. We are committed to fostering their development both on and off the field and believe they will significantly contribute to our program's growth and competitiveness."

Cal's fall ball season starts in September when the Bears begin preparations for the 2025 campaign that gets underway next February.

– A two-time All-Dual County League selection as a 2023 junior and 2024 senior
– Earned Academic All-American honors during her 2022 sophomore and 2023 junior campaigns
– Comes from a family of collegiate athletes with her mother (April) playing lacrosse and soccer, father (Kristopher) a football and rugby player, both at Princeton, and her older brother (Aidan) playing rugby at Colby College
 
Naomi Gan – M – 5-5 – Fr. – 1st Collegiate Season (Palos Verdes Estates, CA/Palos Verdes HS/LA Select)
– Earned USA Lacrosse All-American honors as a 2023 junior and was an All-CIF Southern Section and first-team All-Bay League selection the same season before adding a second All-Section honor as a 2024 senior, while also being a first-team All-Bay League pick as both a 2022 sophomore and 2024 senior
– Scored 213 career points as a prep on 123 goals and 90 assists, while adding 138 draw controls, 102 ground balls and 74 caused turnovers over 63 games played
– Her squad was 19-3 overall and finished the season as the eighth-ranked team in California during her 2022 sophomore campaign
– A two-time USA Lacrosse Academic All-American as a 2023 junior and 2024 senior
– Racked up the athletic and academic honors as a 2024 senior when she was also the Palos Verdes High School Female Athlete of the Year and the school's valedictorian
– Daughter of David and Winnie Gan with her mother a Cal graduate and older brother (Tyson) a current Cal student
 
Ardyn Henry – M – 5-5 – Fr. – 1st Collegiate Season (Charlotte, NC/Charlotte Latin School/Charlotte Style)
– Prep team won state titles in each of her four seasons
– A three-time All-State and first-team All-CISAA pick in her final three campaigns as a 2022 sophomore, 2023 junior and 2024 senior, while earning USA Lacrosse Academic All-American and Charlotte Lacrosse Awards Draw Control Player of the Year honors in each of her last two seasons
– Scored 64 points on 49 goals and 15 assists, while adding 60 draw controls, 15 ground balls and 10 caused turnovers over 18 games as a 2024 senior for a team that finished 15-3 overall
– Earned Multi-Sport Female Athlete of the Year as a 2023-24 senior at Charlotte Latin School, where she was also an All-State field hockey player and a first-team All-CISAA selection in her 2023 senior campaign after earning first-team All-CISAA during his 2023 junior campaign
– Daughter of Mark and Bronwynne Henry
 
Alina Hsu – A – 5-7 – Fr. – 1st Collegiate Season (San Diego, CA/Torrey Pines HS/Coast Lacrosse Club)
– Had a huge 2024 senior campaign, earning Adrenaline All-American, first-team All-Southern Section and first-team All-League honors while she also a USA Lacrosse Academic All-American
– Scored 61 points on 46 goals and 15 assists over 18 games as a 2024 senior for a team that was 17-4, won a second consecutive Open Division San Diego Section title and a second Avocado League crown in three seasons, while finishing No. 5 in the state according to MaXpreps
– A multi-sport athlete who also competed as a running back in her high school's inaugural flag football campaign in 2023, where she racked up the honors as the team's offensive MVP and a first-team All-League selection, while also participating in club soccer and basketball, and continuing to enjoy surfing
– Daughter of Leigh Hsu and Tanja Fichera
 
Charlie Iacobelli – M – 5-6 – Fr. – 1st Collegiate Season (Park City, UT/Park City HS/Tenacity National)
– A two-time USA Lacrosse All-American as a 2023 junior and 2024 senior, as well as a four-time All-State and All-Region pick who finished her four-year prep career with 220 points on 171 goals and 49 assists in 71 games played, while adding 339 draw controls, 183 ground balls and 98 caused turnovers for four teams that combined for a 67-8 overall record
– Squad won state title during her 2023 junior campaign
– A multi-sport athlete who has also competed in basketball, dance, ski racing, volleyball and tennis, winning a state title in doubles in 2024
– Daughter of Pete and Jolie Iacobelli
– Has a pair of brothers who are collegiate athletes with Cooper a ski racer at Williams College and Cameron a club hockey player at Clemson
 
Ashleigh Masterson – M – 5-9 – Fr. – 1st Collegiate Season (Wilton, CT/Wilton HS/CT Grizzlies)
– A two-time USA Lacrosse All-American, first-team All-State and first-team All-FCIAC selection as a 2023 junior and 2024 senior
– Also played basketball and field hockey as a prep, earning first-team All-FCIAC and team MVP honors on the hardwood as a 2023-24 senior and All-FCIAC East Division recognition as a 2022 junior and 2023 senior in field hockey
– Comes from a family of collegiate athletes with her father (Ryan) playing football at Cornell, mother (TaraLeigh) a lacrosse and field hockey player also at Cornell, and older brother (Grant) currently on the men's lacrosse team at Army
 
Ella Thomsen – M – 5-9 – Fr. – 1st Collegiate Season (Washington, DC/Maret School/Capital Lacrosse Club)
– A three-time All-ISL selection in her final three prep seasons as a 2022 sophomore, 2023 junior and 2024 senior, while also earning USA Lacrosse Academic All-American honors in her last campaign
– Each of her final three teams won conference titles
– Set school career records in points with 210 on 173 goals and 37 assists, as well as draw controls with 205
– Also participated in cross country and tennis as a prep
– Co-leader of non-profit foundation called Families4Families
– Daughter of Poul and Majda Thomsen
 
Dahlen Vilbrandt – M – 5-6 – Fr. – 1st Collegiate Season (San Diego, CA/Scripps Ranch HS/Coast Lacrosse Club)
– Played in the 2024 All-American Senior Committed Game
– A three-time first-team All-San Diego Section and team captain in her final three prep campaigns as a 2022 sophomore, 2023 junior and 2024 senior, who racked up prep totals of 352 points (258 goals, 54 assists) and 263 draw controls
– First squad as a 2022 sophomore was 17-4 overall
– Also played soccer as a prep and earned Most Improved Player honors as a 2023 junior and team Most Valuable Player recognition as a 2024 senior when she was also a team captain

Isabella Wenstrand – A – 5-6 – Fr. – 1st Collegiate Season (San Diego, CA/Scripps Ranch HS/Coast Lacrosse Club)
– Had her top season as a 2024 senior when she earned All-San Diego Section and San Diego Western All-Conference honors after leading her squad in goals scored
– First squad as a 2022 sophomore was 17-4 overall
– Also had an illustrious track and field career as a prep, winning six individual league titles including three in the 400 meters
– Daughter of Grant and Teresa Wenstrand
