BERKELEY – Two-time All-American Ruby Swadling dazzled on the final day of the Cal Cup on Sunday morning, registering five goals, three field blocks, two steals and an assist to lead the No. 3 California women's water polo team to a 16-11 victory over No. 8 Long Beach State at Spieker Aquatics Complex.

Swadling, who rejoined the Golden Bears this season after taking last year off to train with the Australian National Team, scored nine goals over two games this weekend and has 15 through five games this season.

Sophomore Julianne Snyder pitched in with her first career hat trick and reigning MPSF Newcomer of the Week Rosalie Hassett had a six-point game with two goals and four assists while also contributing two steals.

The Beach stayed close to Cal (5-0) for much of the game, trailing just 10-9 with 5:16 left in the third quarter. But the Bears took control by scoring four of the next five goals to lead 14-10 early in the fourth.

Goalie Talia Fonseca had a strong game in the cage for Cal, recording nine saves, two assists and two steals.

The Bears are now off until Feb. 8 when they play at the Aggie Invite against No. 17 San Jose State and No. 19 UC Davis.
