Bears Notch First ACC Win

Cal Tops Virginia 75-61 In Haas

BERKELEY (AP) – Andrej Stojakovic scored 23 points and was one of four Golden Bears with double-figure points in the California men's basketball team's 75-61 victory – its first win in the ACC – over Virginia on Wednesday night in Haas Pavilion.

The Golden Bears (8-7, 1-3 ACC) started the second half on a pivotal 8-0 run and reached their first double-digit lead when Stojakovic's jumper with 17:50 remaining made it 43-32. Cal stretched its lead out to as many as 17 points with just under 10 minutes to go.

After Virginia (8-7, 1-3) took an 11-3 advantage, Cal used a 10-2 run in just under four minutes to claim the lead. Blake Buchanan made two foul shots to give Virginia a 19-18 lead with 5:30 left before halftime, but Cal responded with a Rytis Petraitis layup and 3-pointer by DJ Campbell for a four-point advantage. The lead continued to change hands before Cal went to intermission up 35-32.

Mady Sissoko narrowly missed a double-double with nine points and 11 rebounds to go along with four blocks, all coming in the second half. Reserves Joshua Ola-Joseph and Jeremiah Wilkinson scored 10 apiece to pace the Cal bench while Campbell finished with 11 points and three assists.

Stojakovic's 23 points came on 6-of-11 shooting from the floor and an 11-of-13 clip at the free throw line. It was the eighth time in the past 12 games that Stojakovic scored 20-plus points, moving his season scoring average to 20.1 points per game.

Andrew Rhode led Virginia with 14 points, Jacob Cofie had 12 points and Elijah Saunders added 11 points and 10 rebounds.

It was Cal's first win against the Cavaliers, having previously lost both ends of a home-and-home series in 2015 and 2016.
