Wy Named ACC Defensive Player Of The Week
Goalkeeper Leads Cal To 2 Results To Earn Third Award
BERKELEY – Senior goalkeeper
Teagan Wy of the California women's soccer team earned her third ACC Defensive Player of the Week award of the season, as announced by the conference Tuesday.
"Teagan's dedication to the details of the game, work ethic to get better each and every day, and competitive drive to push herself and her teammates to the absolute highest standard has been a testament for her achieving this award for a third time this season," Cal associate head coach
Cori Callahan said.
Wy led the Golden Bears to two results this week tying No. 1 Virginia 2-2 and blanking Virginia Tech on Senior Day, 1-0. After allowing a pair of early goals to the Hoos on Thursday, Wy shut down the nation's top-ranked team for the final 75 minutes and recorded a season-high seven saves, which allowed Cal to make the late-game comeback. On Sunday, she set a new season high, tallying eight saves enroute to her seventh shutout of the season, which is a career high and ranks 19th in the nation.
The Rancho Santa Margarita native ranks second in the ACC with 68 total saves and a 4.25 saves per game average, and third with a .829 save percentage. Her 0.88 goals against average and save percentage lines are the best of her career since taking over as the everyday starter between the posts in 2023.
