The California men's and women's cross country teams head to Sacramento for the NCAA West Regional Championships that begin Friday at the Haggin Oaks Golf Complex, hosted by Sacramento State. The event begins with the women's 6k race at 9 a.m. PT, followed by the men's 10k at 10 a.m. PT.

The top two teams from each region will secure automatic bids to the NCAA Championships. Thirteen additional teams will be selected to fill out the final 31-team field. Individually, the first four finishers and two at-large individuals who do not fall under an automatic qualifier or an at-large team will advance. However, those top four finishers must finish in the top 25 within their region. This year's NCAA Championships will take place on Nov. 22 at Columbia, Missouri, hosted by the University of Missouri.

The Golden Bears seek an NCAA berth following their performance in the ACC Championships two weeks ago. The men's team took 16th place and the women's team took 15th place.

John Sesteaga led the way for the Bears with a finishing time of 24:14.4. On the women's side, Addie Johnson crossed the line at 20:39.8.

At last year's NCAA West Regionals, the Cal men took 11th place overall while the women took 13th place. This year, the men will face three nationally ranked teams - No.7 Oregon, No.11 Washington State and No.17 California Baptist. The women will line up against four nationally ranked teams - No.4 Oregon, No. 14 Stanford, No. 18 Washington and No. 24 Washington State.
