Annual Honors Reward Teams With Best Cumulative GPAs During The Past Year
BERKELEY – The 2025 Newmark Awards were awarded Wednesday to the top academic programs at Cal.
The Newmark Awards, given annually to the teams at Cal with the top cumulative grade-point average in selected categories during the previous academic year, were established in 2007 by Pat and Kent Newmark to honor team academic achievements at Cal and come with a $7,000 stipend that goes into each winning program's operating budget. Kent Newmark competed on the tennis and track & field teams at Cal before graduating in 1960.
Men's rowing won the Men's Large Team award (25+ roster) for the eighth consecutive year with a cumulative GPA of 3.469 while lacrosse took the Women's Large Team honor (3.60). Women's tennis (3.585) and men's cross country (3.374) took the accolades in the small team categories.
Cal's men's tennis program also won the Most Improved GPA Award on the men's side (10.05% increase) while volleyball took the accolade among women's programs (5.89%).
