Ireland Promoted To Associate Head Coach

Cal Staffer In His Fourth Season With Golden Bears

BERKELEY – Peter Ireland, who is in his fourth season as a member of the California men's golf coaching staff, has been promoted to associate head coach, Alex and Marie Shipman Director of Men's Golf Michael Wilson announced Tuesday.

Ireland joined the Golden Bears' staff before the 2022-23 season as an assistant coach and served in that role until his promotion. He also had a brief stint as the program's interim head coach in 2024.

"Having worked with Peter this past year and a half I was able to see up close just how good a person and golf coach he is," Wilson said. "He's passionate, hardworking, sincere and a great dad and husband. Peter is very competitive as a player and coach and is really motivated to make Cal men's golf better each day. He connects really well with the student-athletes, families and the greater Cal Golf family. I know Peter will continue to work hard and help carry on the great tradition of success here at Cal."

Cal men's golf has enjoyed great success since Ireland joined the staff, having qualified for the NCAA postseason every year – including back-to-back NCAA Championships appearances the past two seasons. He's also spent time as an assistant for both the men's and women's programs at Delaware and was the head men's and women's coach at Thomas University.

"I am extremely grateful to Coach Wilson, the Cal athletics department and the Cal Golf Committee for this promotion," Ireland said. "Cal is an inspiring place to work and I am fortunate to be working with incredible people and outstanding players. I look forward to the expanded responsibilities to help our players further succeed."
Ireland played collegiately at Arizona from 2008-11 and competed professionally for two years.

The Bears wrapped up their fall season at the end of October and resume action for the spring campaign in late January.
