Passola Folch Advances To NCAA Singles

SEATTLE, Wash. – Berta Passola Folch qualified for the NCAA individual championships for the first time when the Cal women's tennis senior won in the singles quarterfinals at the ITA West Sectional Championships on Saturday.
Passola Folch, a senior, defeated USC's fourth-seeded Krisha Mahendran 6-2, 7-6(4) to claim a spot in the semifinal round and advance to the NCAA Singles Championship.
Cal's Greta Greco Lucchina lost in the singles quarterfinals to Washington's 96th-ranked Erika Matsuda 6-3, 6-4. But the sophomore has one more chance to qualify for NCAA singles when she plays Stanford's 58th-ranked Caroline Driscoll in a playoff match on Sunday at 9:30 a.m. PT.
Four Bears are currently qualified to compete in the individual postseason championships – Passola Folch (singles), Greco Lucchina (doubles), Mao Mushika (singles and doubles), and Naomi Xu (singles).

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – One day after qualifying for the NCAA Singles Championship, Cal women's tennis junior Mao Mushika completed her stay at the ITA Conference Masters Championships when she fell to USC's Eugenia Zozaya in the singles semifinals on Saturday.
The second-seeded and 17th-ranked Mushika lost to the eighth-seeded Trojan 6-1, 6-2.
Mushika next completes in NCAA singles and – with partner Greta Greco Lucchina – in NCAA doubles from Nov. 18-23 in Orlando, Florida.
