BOSTON – California track & field junior Justin Pretre opened the indoor season for the Golden Bears in fine fashion at the Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener, starting off slow but kicking into another gear to close out his heat of the men's 3000m to finish in 7:56.30 with a final 200m split of 29.26. Pretre's finish was good for ninth out of 130 total runners who competed in the open section.

Were he not already at No. 4 on Cal's all-time performers list with a PR of 3:53.44, set last season at the UW Invitational, Pretre's race would have moved him up to eighth in program history. He is also the Bears' all-time No. 4 performer in the indoor mile (3:59.34) and ran the first leg of Cal's No. 4 distance medley relay time (9:32.81). Outdoors, he ranks eighth at Cal in the 1500m with a best time of 3:42.72.

"This was a great way to cap off 2025," said Cal assistant coach Bobby Lockhart, who leads the distance squad. "I'm happy that Justin made the most of it today."
