3 Home Runs Lift Cal Over Washington

Bears Top Huskies, 6-4

CATHEDRAL CITY – The California softball team (7-4) won Friday night against Washington (6-7), 6-4, at the Big League Dreams Complex in Cathedral City, Calif.

The Golden Bears put four runs on the board in the first inning to take the early advantage. Due to a pair of errors by the Huskies, Acacia Anders crossed home plate for the first run of the game. Alyssa Herrera followed by launching a two-run home run, her third of the season, to left field to give the Bears a 3-0 lead. Nailyn Marshall extended Cal's lead after finding the gap in left field for an RBI double.

In the fourth inning, Mia Phillips tallied her second home run of the season as the Bears continued to pull away. Miranda De Nava had a successful night on the mound after holding the Huskies' offense at bay through four innings. De Nava was working toward a no-hitter until surrendering her first hit in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Washington used a three-run home run with two outs to climb back into the game. The Bears quickly responded in the top half of the sixth inning due to a solo home run by Tianna Bell, her first of the year, to take a three-run lead after six innings.

The Huskies would tack on an additional run in the bottom half of the seventh inning after an RBI single up the middle.

De Dava earned her fourth win of the season while striking out five batters and giving up three hits.
