BERKELEY – History was made Saturday at the Clark Kerr Sand Courts as senior Ella Dreibholz became the California beach volleyball team's all-time wins leader with her 84^th career victory. The No. 9 Golden Bears swept San Francisco and Sacramento State to close out the perfect weekend.
 
Cal (5-1) won all but one set on the second day of the Battle of the Bay and has now won 37 out of 40 matches to open the 2025 season.
 
Dreibholz played alongside fellow senior Ella Sears and tied the Cal record with her first win of the day in the three-spot against the Dons. When Dreibholz took court four later that afternoon against the Hornets, it was to etch her name atop the record books with a 21-13, 21-14 victory. Once the final point touched the sand and the two opposing pairs shook hands, the rest of the Bears rushed to Dreibholz's side, lifted her on their shoulders and began to chant her name.
 
The court-one pair of Emma Donley and Portia Sherman also went 2-0 on the day as did the team captain pairing of Sierra Caffo and Gia Fisher. Maile Somera picked up a pair of wins with different partners giving her a 3-0 start to her beach career and Julia Capps earned her second career victory.
 
Cal will now prepare for next weekend's MPSF Mid-Season tournament at Stanford. The Bears will face GCU and USC on Friday followed by matches with UCLA and the host Cardinal on Saturday.
