REDWOOD CITY – The California men's rowing team faced some tough conditions going up against headwinds but that didn't stop the Golden Bears from completing a clean sweep to finish the Redwood Shores Invitational at Redwood Shores on Sunday morning. After facing crews from Drexel and UCSD Saturday, Cal took on San Diego and Santa Clara today. Cal's first through fourth varsity eights dominated their head-to-head matchups with the V8+ going up against San Diego and the 2V8+ through the 4V8+ boats going up against crews from Santa Clara.
 
"I think it was a really productive weekend of racing," Cal head coach Scott Frandsen said. "All the different variations of the crews went out and raced well and learned a lot. So I'm really happy that in some challenging conditions, the crews all represented themselves really well."
 
The weekend served as a way for the coaching staff to move rowers around and test a few combinations of lineups before the team heads into the heavy part of the schedule.
 
"It's a normal part of our process to try a couple different lineups and take a look at different guys in different seats from the varsity all the way down through all six lineups this weekend. It's important to be adaptable and not try to do too much when you get switched and just slot in and add some energy, add some power."

The Bears have an extended break before heading to the annual San Diego Crew Classic in Mission Bay March 29-30.
