MISSION BAY – The No. 2 California men's rowing team dominated both of its races at the San Diego Crew Classic in Mission Bay on Saturday as the freshmen 8+ was never tested in either race.

In the first heat of the V8+ Cal Cup, the Bears made quick work of the race taking an open-water lead over UCSB and UC Irvine after just a few strokes and kept increasing its lead over the course of the race easily winning in a time of 5:55.344 – more than 30 seconds ahead of the field.

In the prelims of the Open 8+ Anderson Borthwick Memorial Trophy, Cal jumped out early and was able to build an open-water lead by the 1,000-meter mark. The Bears kept the pressure on and increased their lead by several boats of open water over the second half of the race and cruised to the win in a time of 5:57.886.
