No. 1 Cal Hosts Redwood Shores Challenge
Bears To Face 3 Top-10 Crews
Fresh off a sweep at last weekend's Cal/Stanford Invitational, the California men's rowing team came in at No. 1 in the latest IRCA/IRA Men's Varsity 8+ Poll. The Golden Bears will put that top ranking to the test as they welcome crews from No. 3 Brown, No. 7 Yale and No. 9 Syracuse for the Redwood Shores Challenge at the Redwood Shores this weekend.
Both Syracuse and Yale advanced to the grand final along with Cal at last year's Intercollegiate Rowing Association national championships. The Bears ended up finishing third while the Bulldogs and Orange took fifth and sixth place, respectively. Cal also faced Syracuse at last year's Pac-12 Challenge, where the Bears' V8+ and 2V8+ swept both races.
Saturday's races take place between 9 a.m.-3:10 p.m. PT with a break between noon-2 p.m. while Sunday's races go from 9-11 a.m. PT. The complete schedule is below.
Similar to last weekend, the Bears will roll out their top five varsity eight boats along with a freshmen eight.
At last weekend's Cal/Stanford Invitational, the Bears swept a combined 13 dual races against crews from No. 17 Wisconsin, No. 20 UC San Diego and No. 22 Oregon State.
