Henveaux, Okadome, Durden Receive ACC Honors

Graduate student Lucas Henveaux, freshman Yamato Okadome and head coach David Durden of the California men's swimming & diving team racked up ACC honors for the 2024-25 season, announced by the conference Thursday.

Henveaux was named the ACC Swimmer of the Year, Okadome took home Freshman of the Year accolades and Durden was named the ACC Men's Swimming & Diving Coach of the Year.

Henveaux earned the conference's top honor after garnering All-ACC recognition in the 500-yard freestyle, 1650-yard freestyle and 800-yard freestyle relay at the conference championships while setting two meet records. At the NCAA Championships, Henveaux earned four all-American honors and helped the 800-yard relay team set an NCAA, meet, U.S. Open and school record. He also set individual program records in the 500-yard freestyle, 1000-yard freestyle and 1650-yard freestyle. Henveaux is the first Bear since Ryan Hoffer in 2021 to earn swimmer of the year accolades and is the 14th winner in school history.

In a stellar freshman campaign, Okadome recorded 14 individual and nine relay top three finishes. He received All-ACC honors after top three finishes in the 200-yard medley relay, 100-yard breaststroke and 200-yard breaststroke at the conference championships. In the 200-yard medley relay, Okadome helped set a meet record at the ACC championships with the second-fastest time in program history. He also holds the second-fastest time in the 100-yard breaststroke and fifth-fastest time in the 200-yard breaststroke in team history. Okadome is the 10th Bear to receive freshman of the year honors and the first since Destin Lasco in 2021.

After completing his 18th season at the helm, Durden earned his 13th coach of the year honor and first-ever ACC coaching accolade after leading the Bears to an ACC title in their first season as a conference member. Cal had a dominating performance at the conference championships, earning six championships, including three relay titles, while setting two conference records in its title quest. Durden led Cal to a runner-up finish at the 2025 NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships, marking 15 consecutive top two finishes.
