No. 9 Cal Looks To Retain Simpson Cup
Bears Face No. 3 Washington In Annual Dual
The No. 9 California women's rowing team will look for a repeat of last year's success when it faces No. 3 Washington in a battle for the Simpson Cup, which will take place on Saturday at the Montlake Cut in Seattle. The Golden Bears are hoping to retain the Simpson Cup, given to the winner of the varsity eight race, after sweeping the dual races in 2024.
The women will alternate races with both schools' men's teams with racing beginning at 10 a.m. PT. The final race starts at 11:45 a.m. PT.
Live results will be posted
HERE and a livestream of the races can be seen on the
BIG+ Network.
The Bears will roll out their first through fourth varsity eights along with their first two varsity fours boats. The Simpson Cup – named after and donated by longtime Washington supporters Hunter and Dottie Simpson, whose daughter, Anne, rowed at Cal – dates back to 1977 with the Huskies owning a 26-21 series lead. The Bears, however, have won 16 of the last 20 matchups between the varsity eights.
The Bears are coming of a sweep at the ACC Challenge earlier this month where they defeated crews from No. 10 Virginia and No. 11 Syracuse for the second straight year.
