Nolan Dorsey To Play For Golden Bears
Cal Adds 2024-25 CAA Defensive Player Of The Year
BERKELEY – Nolan Dorsey has signed to play for the California men's basketball program in the 2025-26 season. Dorsey, a 6-foot-5, 205-pound guard from Knightdale, North Carolina, was the Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) Defensive Player of the Year at Campbell last season and joins the Golden Bears with one year of eligibility remaining.
Â
Dorsey started his collegiate career at New Mexico (2020-21) and spent two years at Holy Cross (2021-23) before transferring to Campbell ahead of the 2023-24 season. His breakout 2024-25 year with the Fighting Camels saw him average 9.1 points, 6.3 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 1.7 steals per game while shooting 36.3% (49 of 135) from 3-point range.
Â
"We love Nolan's length, instincts and toughness. His ability to guard multiple positions and wreak havoc defensively will be a tremendous boost to our program," Cal head coach
Mark Madsen said. "Nolan's commitment to doing the hard things – defending, rebounding, making winning plays on both ends of the court – makes him a perfect fit with the Golden Bears."
Â
Dorsey led the CAA with 53 total steals last year and had 16 games with multiple swipes, including a season high of four twice. On the offensive end of the floor, Dorsey had shooting splits of .433/.363/.732 and scored double figures 13 times, including 20-plus twice. He poured in a career-high 22 points in a win at Hofstra on 6-of-10 shooting from deep and previously scored a then-career-high 19 points in back-to-back games at The Citadel and Morgan State en route to being named the CAA Player of the Week.
Â
Dorsey redshirted during his first season at Campbell in 2023-24. He played a key role for Holy Cross over the two previous seasons (2021-23), starting 33 of 53 total games played for the Crusaders. He averaged 5.8 PPG and 2.6 APG in his second year at Holy Cross in 2022-23.
Â
Dorsey comes from an athletic family; his mother, Michelle played field hockey at Boston College, his late father, Alan, played basketball at James Madison, his sister, Cailin, played basketball at College of Charleston, and his brother, Patrick, played basketball at the U.S. Naval Academy.
