Mykolas Alekna has been named the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division I Men's Athlete of the Week, as announced by the USTFCCCA on Monday afternoon.
Alekna opened his 2025 campaign at the Brutus Hamilton Invitational last weekend, posting two throws over 70 meters and finishing with a best mark of 70.09m (229-11) to surpass the previous ACC record by over 10 feet. This is the fifth time in Alekna's career that he has received the USTFCCCA award, having also been recognized twice in both 2022 and 2023. The reigning Olympic silver medalist and world record holder currently holds the NCAA lead by three feet, one inch. He has appeared on the watch list for The Bowerman, which recognizes each year's top collegiate men's and women's track & field athlete, four times this year and 19 in his career – tied for sixth-most all-time on the men's side.
Alekna will step back into the ring Sunday at the Oklahoma Throws Series World Invitational in Ramona, Oklahoma, where he set the world record of 74.35m (243-11) last April.
