One day after winning the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division I Men's Athlete of the Week, Mykolas Alekna has been recognized by the ACC as its Men's Field Athlete of the Week, while Valentina Savva has earned her second ACC Women's Freshman of the Week honor.
 
Alekna is now an eight-time conference honoree, having also won Pac-12 Men's Field Athlete of the Week seven times in the 2022-23 season before redshirting in 2024. He opened his 2025 campaign at Edwards Stadium last Saturday with two throws over 70 meters and a collegiate-best (and ACC record) mark of 70.09m (229-11). His next appearance in the ring will be Sunday at Millican Field in Ramona, Oklahoma, which was the site of his world-record throw last April.
 
Savva, who was the nation's top freshman in the indoor weight throw, posted the No. 2 overall hammer throw in the nation (68.73m/225-6) for a new Cyprus U23 record, a new Cal freshman record and the No. 3 ranking on the Golden Bears' all-time list. She is just one of two rookies to rank within the top 50 on the Division I hammer list and is the second Cal athlete this year to win two ACC weekly awards (Giavonna Meeks, Jan. 28/Feb. 11). Savva will return to action next week at the Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut, scheduled for April 17-19.
