LAST CAL WIN: Cal 4, Miami 3 - College World Series, Omaha, NE (June 4, 1980)
— Cal's lone victory over Miami came in an elimination game semifinals matchup at the 1980 College World Series when the Golden Bears prevailed, 4-3.
— Miami would come back 12 years later with a 4-3 win in 13 innings over Cal in an opening game at the 1992 College World Series.
 
KEY THINGS TO KNOW
FIRST ACC CHAMPIONSHIP - Cal opens its first ever ACC Championship by playing Miami in the first game of the 2025 tournament at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park on Tuesday. The six-day single elimination event includes all 16 ACC teams and runs through Sunday. Cal is seeded No. 16 while Miami is No. 9. The winner of the ACC Championship receives an automatic bid to the NCAA Division I Championship.
 
BETTER AFTER THE BREAK - Cal has won four of its last seven games following a season-long nine-game losing streak. The Bears had their longest break of the season over the first five days in May before starting their current stretch with a May 6 win at Pacific. Cal also has a win over No. 2 Florida State and a series victory against Boston College when the Bears took two of three by walking the Eagles off twice in their final regular-season series of 2025.
 
MORE ABOUT THOSE WALK-OFFS - After posting one walk-off victory during their first 49 games, the Bears did it twice in three days against Boston College. Jacob French and Max Handron both had two-run homers in the bottom of the ninth of an 8-6 walk-off win in Thursday's series opener before pinch runner Elijah Clayton scored on a 10th-inning wild pitch to give the Bears a walk-off win Sunday.
 
NEU'S MIAMI CONNECTION - Cal head coach Mike Neu spent his junior season as a collegiate player at Miami in 1999 and played an integral role in the Hurricanes winning the College World Series. Neu was an All-American and also selected to the All-College World Series team after earning three saves and appearing in all four of Miami's contests in Omaha. One of Neu's saves came in the championship game.

ALL-ACC PICKS - 2B Jarren Advincula (.347, 6 HR, 32 RBI, 9 SB) and OF Jacob French (.368, 4 HR, 32 RBI, 2 SB) were second and third-team All-ACC picks, respectively, this season.
 
TEAM BATTING AVERAGE RACE - OF Jacob French ended the regular season with a .368 batting average to lead all Cal players. French went into the final series of the regular season against Boston College just .002 ahead of 2B Jarren Advincula but was 7-for-11 in series while Advincula was 4-for-13 and finished the regular season at .347.  
 
CLOSE CONTESTS - Cal has played 16 games decided by two runs or less in 2025 -  including all three contests against Boston College -  and is 5-12 in those contests.
 
EXTRA INNINGS - Cal is 3-0 in extra-inning games in 2025 with wins Feb. 26 against Cal State Bakersfield (6-5, 11), March 23 at Stanford (6-5, 10) and May 17 against Boston College (4-3, 10).
 
SIX TOP 25 ACC SERIES - Six of Cal's 10 ACC series in its first season in the league came against teams ranked in the top 25 at the time. The Bears played five straight series against ranked teams to start their ACC slate (No. 14 Virginia, at No. 14 Stanford, at No. 18 Louisville, No. 6 Clemson, at No. 18 Georgia Tech) then added No. 2 Florida State. Cal also played current No. 22 NC State but the Wolfpack was not in the Top 25 at the time.  
  
BIG LEAGUERS - Cal has seven former players who have been on MLB rosters in 2025 in OF/1B Mark Canha (Royals), RHP Lucas Erceg (Royals), RHP Grant Holman (Athletics), C Korey Lee (White Sox), MGR Bob Melvin (San Francisco Giants), INF Marcus Semien (Rangers) and OF Andrew Vaughn (White Sox).
 
MAY 20 HAS BEEN GREAT TO BEARS - Cal has won seven straight games on May 20 dating back to 2007 including a 2022 win against Utah to clinch a berth in the Pac-12 Tournament, a victory over No. 7 TCU to wrap up the 2017 regular season and a victory over a No. 12 UCLA squad to end the 2012 campaign.
 
BEARS PRACTICE AT BASEBALL SHRINE - Cal practiced Monday morning at Durham Athletic Park, where much of the classic 1988 baseball movie Bull Durham was filmed.
