Bears Blank Hornets; Advance To Regional Final

Three Straight-Set Singles Wins Boost Bears

SEATTLE, Wash. -- In its NCAA tournament opening match, the No. 19 California Golden Bears (14-8) quickly returned to the win column after it defeated the Sacramento State Hornets (21-4), 4-0 in Seattle on Friday.

To begin the day, the fourth-ranked doubles duo of Mao Mushika and Jessica Alsola quickly gave Cal the doubles point advantage after they collected a 6-4 victory on court one. Next, on court two, Greta Greco Lucchina and Lan Mi secured the doubles point for the Bears with a 6-4 win.

In singles action, Berta Passola Folch gave Cal its second point of the day after she won in straight-sets, 6-0, 6-0. On court two, Jessica Alsola inched the Bears to the brink of advancing to the regional finals with a 6-1, 6-4 victory. Finally, on court three, Lan Mi cemented the victory for Cal with a 6-4, 6-1 win.
