Zhou Ties For 22nd Individually At NCAAs
Best NCAA Finish By Cal Freshman Since Collin Morikawa In 2016
CARLSBAD – California freshman
Ziqin (Eric) Zhou shot 1-over-par 73 in the final round of the 2025 NCAA Men's Golf Championship on Monday to cap an impressive performance across 72 holes played at Omni La Costa.
The Golden Bear rookie finished the championship tied for 22nd place individually at 1-over-par (74-68-74-73—289). Zhou played the fourth round as an individual after he was among the top nine golfers in the field not on one of the 15 advancing teams through three rounds of competition. Cal placed 17th as a team on Sunday, shooting 20-over-par 884 over three rounds.
Zhou started the fourth round with a bang by chipping out of the bunker for an eagle on hole 10, his first hole of the day. He was steady from there on, overcoming bogeys on holes 12 and 14 with a birdie on 18 to stay under par on the back nine. After his third bogey of the day on hole 3 and a double bogey on 7, Zhou ended his tournament on a high note with a birdie on 9.
Zhou placed third among freshmen at the NCAA Championship, trailing only Purdue's Supapon Amornchaichan (T9, -3) and Oklahoma's Clark Van Gaalen (T13, -2). Zhou's 22nd-place finish was the best by a Cal freshman at the NCAA Championship since Collin Morikawa tied for 10th in 2016.
