KEY THINGS TO KNOW
HIGHEST RANKED TEAM IN BERKELEY SINCE 2018 - No. 2 Florida State is the highest ranked team to play a series at Stu Gordon Stadium since a No. 1 Oregon State squad swept the Golden Bears in Berkeley in a three-game set Mar. 16-18, 2018.
FINAL STRETCH AT HOME - Cal closes its 2025 regular season with six straight games at home against No. 2 Florida State (May 9-11) and Boston College (May 15-17) in back-to-back ACC home series. The ACC Tournament featuring all 16 of the league's teams is slated to take place May 20-24 in Durham, N.C.
ADVINCULA'S ALL-AMERICAN CASE - 2B
Jarren Advincula, a first-team All-Pac-12 choice in 2024, has put together an All-American caliber season in 2025. Advincula's 69 hits rank tied for second among the nation's second basemen, as well as fourth overall in the ACC and tied for 52nd nationally.
PJ/JARREN 100 - SS
PJ Moutzouridis had Advincula have both recently played in his 100th career games at Cal with Moutzouridis reaching the milestone April 30 at San Jose State and Advincula May 6 at Pacific. Moutzouridis has started all 101 games possible in his Cal career over the last two seasons at shortstop, while Advincula has started 100 of a possible 101 (99 2B, 1 DH).
GETTING BACK ON TRACK - Cal was a 13-3 winner in a run-rule, shortened seven-inning nonconference game at Pacific on Tuesday to end a nine-game losing streak. After starting April by scoring twice in the top of the ninth inning in a 6-5 comeback win at Sacramento State on the first day of the month to move to a season-high-tying four games over .500 (16-12), the Bears went 2-15 in their remaining April contests. Cal is still looking to end a 13-game losing streak in ACC contests dating back to a 14-10 win at No. 18 Louisville on March 29 that had lifted the Bears to 6-5 in ACC play.
CLOSE CONTESTS - Cal has played 14 games decided by two runs or less in 2025 and is 3-11 in those contests including a current stretch of six straight losses.
SIX TOP 25 ACC SERIES - Six of Cal's 10 ACC series in its first season in the league have been or will be against teams ranked in the top 25 at the time of the series. The Bears played five straight series against ranked teams to start their ACC slate (No. 14 Virginia, at No. 14 Stanford, at No. 18 Louisville, No. 6 Clemson, at No. 18 Georgia Tech) with No. 2 Florida State remaining on the schedule (May 9-11). Cal also played current No. 16 NC State but the Wolfpack was not in the Top 25 at the time.
MIDWEEK SUCCESS - Cal was 8-3 in midweek contests in 2025.
BIG LEAGUERS - Cal has seven former players currently on MLB rosters in OF/1B Mark Canha (Royals), RHP Lucas Erceg (Royals), RHP Grant Holman (Athletics), C Korey Lee (White Sox), MGR Bob Melvin (San Francisco Giants), INF Marcus Semien (Rangers) and OF Andrew Vaughn (White Sox). Holman was called up from Triple-A on April 24, while the others started the 2025 season on big league rosters. Lee is currently on the White Sox injured list.
ON THIS DATE IN CAL BASEBALL - Cal has played just once on May 9 over the past decade with the Bears a 7-2 loser at home to Arizona State on the date in 2021. Cal produced a pair of memorable victories over ranked Stanford teams on the date with a 9-5 win over the No. 21 Cardinal in Berkeley in 2005 and a 4-3 triumph in 10 innings over a No. 6 Stanford squad on The Farm in 2008.
