Bears Earn IRCA All-American Honors

Breuer, Dawson, Di Mauro Named To First Team; Roth Named To Second Team

BERKELEY – The Intercollegiate Rowing Collegiate Association (IRCA) announced its 2025 Empacher All-Americans on Thursday which includes Fredrik Breuer, Angus Dawson and Gennaro di Mauro who were named to the First Team and Tim Roth who was named to the Second Team. The three First-Team All-Americans tied for the most of any team in the country.

This marks the third First-Team honors for Dawson and di Mauro and first for Breuer while Roth was named to the Second Team for the third time. All four rowers were part of Cal's first varsity 8+ that won the inaugural Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) men's rowing championship, represented their respective countries in the 2024 Paris Olympic Games and were key pieces of the Bears' back-to-back IRA National Championships in 2022 and 2023.

Breuer, out of Bonn, Germany, was also named the MPSF Athlete of the Year this season and has been a part of the Bears' V8+ his entire career in Berkeley. He took the last season off to train and compete for a spot on Germany's Olympic team, which he secured on the men's eight. Breuer has also been as impressive in the classroom as he earned Cal Athletics' Jake Gimbel award this spring – given to the graduating male student-athlete with the highest GPA.

Dawson, from Dingabledinga, Australia, has also been on Cal's V8+ all four years he has been on the team and was also named to this season's MPSF All-Conference team. He also spent significant time on Australia's national team and competed in the men's eight this past summer at the Paris Olympics and was part of the Aussie eight that won gold at the 2023 World Rowing Cup III in Lucerne, Switzerland.

Di Mauro, a native of Sant'Anastasia, Italy has spent his first three years at Cal in the V8+ and represented Italy in both the 2024 Paris and 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games. In Paris he was part of the men's eight that finished in seventh place and in Tokyo he competed in the men's single sculls where he placed eighth.

Roth, out of Berikon, Switzerland, has been part of the Bears' V8+ his entire career and competed for the Swiss in the men's four at the Paris Olympics where he finished third in the B final. He also recently raced in the World Rowing Cup I in Varese, Italy earlier this month in the single sculls.
