OREM, Utah– The California women's soccer team picked up its second tie of the season Thursday night drawing on the road with Utah Valley 1-1.
Despite being outshot for the first time this season 18-6, the Golden Bears (2-1-2) managed to keep the host Wolverines (1-1-1) off the board for two-thirds of the contest. Senior goalkeeper
Teagan Wy picked up a season-high five saves for the second straight match. UVU had eight corner kicks to Cal's one, but the Bears stymied every set piece.
Wy is now tied for second in the ACC with 17 saves this year.
After a scoreless first half, the Bears got on the board early in the second period scoring in the 52nd minute. Wy made a leaping save, corralled the ball and got it out quickly to begin a Cal counterattack. On the other end of it was senior
Coco Thistle who fired a shot from just outside of the 18-yard box for her second goal of the season. Junior
Emelia Warta earned her first point as a Bear picking up the assist.
In the 61st minute the Wolverines earned the equalizer on a Cal own goal that would get credited to UVU's Ruby Hladek.
Down the stretch both teams had solid opportunities taking shots within the penalty area with under a minute to go but both chances sailed wide of the goal.
Cal now returns home for an old Pac-12 matchup as the Arizona Wildcats come to Edwards Stadium on Sunday at 1 p.m. The match will be aired on ACCNX.
