Bears End ITA All-American Pre-Qualifying Slate

CARY, N.C. – The California women's tennis team concluded its run in the pre-qualifying rounds of the ITA All-American Championships on Sunday at Cary Tennis Park, with Laura Cilekova and Naomi Xu falling in singles and Greta Greco Lucchina winning her consolation match.
 
Xu pushed her opponent to three sets in their round of 128 clash, but the sophomore lost to Vanderbilt's 19th-seeded Mia Yamakita 6-2, 2-6, 6-4. Cilekova, a freshman in her second collegiate match, lost to Oklahoma's Chloe Noel 6-0, 6-3 in the round of 128.
 
Playing in the consolation draw for pre-qualifying singles, sixth-seeded sophomore Greta Greco Lucchina defeated Rice's Uma Bakaiyte 6-3, 7-5.
 
With the duo of Xu and Berta Passola Folch withdrawing from the pre-qualifying doubles consolation field Sunday, the Golden Bears' next match is slated for Monday, when Passola Folch starts play in qualifying singles. The draw for qualifying singles will be available Sunday night. On Wednesday, Cilekova and junior Mao Mushika begin play in main draw doubles and Mushika also starts main draw singles.
 
The ITA All-American Championships end Sept. 28.
