BERKELEY - The California field hockey team got back into the win column with a decisive 4-1 victory over UC Davis at Underhill Field on Sunday afternoon. The Golden Bears (4-5, 0-3 ACC) were powered by Olivia Sharratt and Zara Schmitz who both found the back of the net twice in the contest. The Aggies' (4-5) lone goal came late in the fourth period with the game already decided.

This marked the first multi-goal game in a Bear uniform for both Schmitz and Sharratt.

With just 30 seconds remaining in the first period, Sharratt took the ball deep in the scoring circle and found Schmitz just off the net. Schmitz was able to chip the ball over the goalie for the first score of the game.

Both teams went scoreless in the second period leaving the game up for grabs. Just two minutes into the third period, Cal earned a penalty corner, but Lieve Schalk's shot was saved. Sharratt however was able to take the ball off the rebound and find the back of the net.

The Bears went up 3-0 after Josefina Moyano took the ball near the 25-yard line and made a long pass to Sharratt in front of the net, ahd Sharratt was able to chip it in for the score.

"Our goals were to keep our level as high as it was Friday night and to make sure we were learning," Donna Fong Director of Field Hockey Shellie Onstead said. "Two game weekends are hard, so that's important to learn at this time of the season. I think we learned a lot from it. We did play a better second half, but I would have been more happy if we played a better first half."
