Cal Tabbed To Host MPSF Men’s Gymnastics Championships

Conference Title Meet Returns To Haas Pavilion After 9 Years

For the first time since 2017, Haas Pavilion will play host to the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) Championships as the California men's gymnastics team will welcome defending conference champion Oklahoma, Stanford and Air Force to Berkeley on April 4.

At last season's MPSF Championships, Cal finished third with its best team score of the year (315.450) and fielded its first MPSF champion since 2017 as returner Jasper Smith-Gordon claimed gold on vault, which also made him the first Golden Bear to win the event at a conference meet since 1987. Two of his teammates – Theodor Roald Gadderud and 2025 graduate Aidan Li – also reached the podium, as Roald Gadderud took silver in the all-around and bronze on rings while Li earned bronze on pommel horse.

This will be Cal's first year under new head coach Bryan Del Castillo, who had served as an assistant coach and later as associate head coach for the previous six seasons. Castillo, a five-time All-American and former Team USA member, is being aided by fellow accomplished Cal alumni Karl Ziehn and Donothan Bailey as assistant coaches.

"Historically, these teams have produced dozens of world-class gymnasts and some big rivalries," Del Castillo said. "The talent level at this meet is going to be very high and incredibly exciting to watch. Our team is fired up and motivated to take this program to the next level and make a run – a lot of the guys have their sights set on becoming All-Americans and making the MPSF podium. They see it as something attainable and they're really getting after it and bringing great energy in the gym."

The Bears' complete 2026 schedule will be released later this fall.
