Bears Roll Past Olympic Club
Cal rugby improves to 4-0 in the spring season
BERKELEY- California rugby cruised to a 75-5 victory over Olympic Club Saturday at Witter Rugby Field. Nine different players scored in the victory as Cal improved to 4-0 in the spring season.
The Bears came out the gates firing, scoring three tries in the first eight minutes, led by sophomores
Filip Edstrom and
Masi Koi, the only Bears to record multiple tries in the game. The Bears converted five more tries in the span of 30 minutes to blow the game wide open.
Edstrom and Koi scored tries again right before the end of the first half, helping the Bears build a 61-0 halftime lead. Edstrom converted five conversions in the first half, while captain
Rand Santos added two conversions.
Sophomore
Chris Biller and senior
Cormac Saint both converted tries in the second half, while Saint added two conversions, as the Bears cruised to the victory.
"We appreciate the Olympic Club visiting us," head coach Jack Clark said. "There were lots of familiar faces in red jerseys today. We wish the club well as they get into the critical part of their season. Our boys were mostly good, but with too steep of a standard fall-off when the changes came on. We're committed to one team wide standard and we have room to grow in this regard."
The Bears hit the road next week for a matchup with UCLA on Saturday, Jan. 31 at 12 p.m.
