Senior Netted Four Goals In Cal’s 7-1 Win Over UC Davis
Senior forward Holly Pears of the California field hockey team was named ACC Offensive Player of the Week, as announced by the conference office Tuesday.
Pears led the Golden Bears' offense to a decisive 7-1 win over UC Davis Sunday, totaling eight points on four goals. The strong performance earned the senior her first career ACC weekly honor.
The senior's four-goal outing against the Aggies marked the highest-scoring game of her career, surpassing her previous single-game high of two goals against VCU on Oct. 2. She also raised her season total to seven goals, a career high.
Following the weekend, Pears is tied for fifth in the ACC in goals. She also has four assists, tied for fifth in the conference alongside teammates Liz Klompmaker and Josefina Moyano.
The senior becomes the second Bear to earn ACC Offensive Player of the Week honors this season, joining Liz Klompmaker (Sept. 1). Freshman Flore Uges also earned ACC Defensive Player of the Week honors earlier this season (Sept. 15)
The win also kept Cal in the top 20 of the Penn Monto/NFHCA Division I Coaches Poll at No. 16 and at No. 18 in the NCAA RPI rankings. The Bears will look to Pears and other key offensive contributors this weekend in a pair of important ACC matchups against Boston College and Syracuse.
