Cal Takes On Top-10 Opponents At Metroplex Challenge
Bears To Face Off With No. 8 Georgia, No. 10 Stanford, No. 42 Air Force
California women's gymnastics (7-3, 3-1 ACC) will return to the Metroplex Challenge for the third consecutive year for quad meet on podium against No. 8 Georgia, No. 10 Stanford and No. 42 Air Force. The event will be held at the Fort Worth Convention Center in Fort Worth, Texas, with Cal set to compete at 5:15 p.m. PT. The Golden Bears remain ranked 20th in the week six Road To Nationals rankings. Cal is in the nation's top 30 on all four events, sitting in eighth on uneven bars, 18th on vault, 20th on balance beam and 30th on floor exercise.

Cal recorded its highest overall score of the season in its 196.950-196.900 upset over Clemson and former Bears' co-head coaches Justin Howell and Elisabeth Crandall-Howell, who now lead the Tigers in the same roles. The Bears also set season highs on balance beam (49.275) and floor exercise (49.200).

MELKONIAN NAMED ACC CO-SPECIALIST OF THE WEEK
Sage Melkonian was named the ACC's Co-Specialist of the Week, which is the first weekly conference honor of her career and the fourth notched by a Bear this season after
Annalise Newman-Achee was named ACC Gymnast of the Week following week one and
Tonya Paulsson was awarded ACC Newcomer of the Week after weeks one and five.

Melkonian recorded a personal-best 9.925 on uneven bars in Cal's upset over Clemson on the road this past weekend. It was her first routine that scored 9.900 or higher this season. She tied with Paulsson for first place on the event, which was her first event title of the 2026 season, and helped Cal to a 49.400 overall uneven bars score, which was the highest event score of the entire meet. Melkonian ties for 75th in the nation on uneven bars, according to the week six Road to Nationals rankings.Â

She also competed on the balance beam against Clemson. As the leadoff routine, Melkonian posted a 9.750 to help the Bears record their best beam rotation of 2026 with a 49.275 and defeat the Tigers.

ALL-AROUNDER ANNALISE
Annalise Newman-Achee has collected six all-around podium finishes in as many meets, taking gold at Pitt, silver at the Best of the West and versus NC State, and bronze at Clemson, Stanford and the Sprouts Farmers Market Collegiate Quad. She began competing in the all-around this season after primarily featuring on uneven bars last season. Last week, she set a new personal best on floor with a 9.875 and kept her streak of six straight 9.800-plus uneven bars routines.

FRESHMAN PAULSSON CONTINUES ALL-AROUND SUCCESS
Freshman
Tonya Paulsson ranks 19th in the nation in the all-around. She won the all-around at Clemson, her second gold in the all-around this season, which she only began competing in three weeks ago. Paulsson also claimed a share of the uneven bars title with her 9.925 routine, which was her fourth uneven bars routine that has scored 9.925 or higher this season. She ranks 22nd in the nation on bars. Paulsson also collected a career-high 9.875 on beam to help the Bears to their strongest outing on the apparatus this season.

LEE GETS FIRST CAREER 9.900
Freshman
Sarah Lee notched a career-high 9.900 on balance beam last week at Clemson, earning the first event title of her career when she tied with
Abbey Scanlon for gold on the event. It was her second consecutive week setting a new personal best on the event after posting a 9.875 the week prior at Stanford.

BEARS ON BARS
Five of the Bears' six gymnasts in their uneven bars lineup are currently ranked in the top 75 in the nation. Cal has recorded a combined seven 9.9+ routines on bars this season, including one 9.950 from
Tonya Paulsson in week two.
