Berta Passola Folch Named ACC Player Of The Week

California women's tennis senior All-American Berta Passola Folch was named the ACC Player of the Week for leading the Golden Bears to conference-opening wins over Clemson and Georgia Tech last week, the conference announced Tuesday.

This marks Passola Folch's first ACC weekly honor and the first for the Bears this season.

The Spaniard won twice in singles and doubles as the then-No. 12 Bears – now ranked No. 7 – defeated the No. 21 Tigers 4-1 on Friday and No. 59 Yellow Jackets 4-0 on Saturday at the Hellman Tennis Complex.

Passola Folch – ranked 13th in singles – beat Romana Cisovska 6-4, 7-6(2) and teamed with Tiziana-Marie Schomburg to clinch the doubles point against Clemson with a 6-3 win over Cisovska and Gaia Parravicini. The Cal duo also clinched the doubles point against Georgia Tech, beating Taly Licht and Sabritt Dozier 6-4. Passola Folch later bested 50th-ranked Alejandra Cruz 6-1, 6-3 at court-one singles.

The veteran Bear is in the midst of her best collegiate season, which included garnering All-America honors on the way to the NCAA singles final last fall. Through the Georgia Tech match, she has records of 21-5 in singles and 7-3 in doubles.

Passola Folch and the Bears (4-0, 2-0 ACC) continue conference play when they host No. 27 NC State on Friday and No. 73 Wake Forest on Saturday at Hellman.
