BERKELEY – The seventh-ranked California women's tennis team got a straight-set singles win from Mao Mushika but suffered its first loss of the dual-match season in a 4-1 setback against No. 27 NC State on Friday afternoon at the Hellman Tennis Complex.

The Golden Bears are now 4-1 (2-1 ACC). The Wolfpack has an 8-4 record (1-0 ACC).

NC State swept the three doubles matches, clinching the doubles point when the 29th-ranked pair of Jasmine Conway and Anna Zyryanova defeated Cal's Berta Passola Folch and Tiziana-Marie Schomburg 6-4 on court two.

Mushika, ranked 55th, beat 60th-ranked Zyryanova 6-2, 7-5 at court-three singles to temporarily tie the match 1-1.

But three straight losses doomed the Bears, with the Wolfpack clinching its victory when Cal freshman Laura Cilekova fell to 28th-ranked Lavinia Tanasie 6-1, 6-7(1), 6-0 on court four.

The Bears return to ACC action at Hellman on Saturday at noon PT, when they host Wake Forest.
