Cal's Upset Bid Comes Up Short Against San Diego
Early Deficit Too Much For Bears
In its fifth ranked matchup of the 2026 season, the California Golden Bears (5-5) fell to the No. 13 San Diego Toreros (6-2), 4-1, in San Diego on Sunday.
To begin the day, Cal fought to climb back after the Toreros jumped out to early leads on each court but ultimately fell on courts one and two to drop the doubles point.
In singles play against the No. 13 Toreros, Cal fell behind 2-0 after a court four loss but gained its first point of the match after Fryderyk Lechno Wasiutynski won on court two, 6-3, 6-2.
Following a loss on court five, Cal fought back to tie the second set on courts one and three while leading on court six. Despite its comeback attempt, the Bears fell on court one to surrender its fourth match of the match.
