Bears Take Down Tar Heels For First ACC Victory
Two 3 Set Victories Propels Cal
In its second Atlantic Coast Conference match in three days, the California Golden Bears (8-6, 1-1) picked up its first Atlantic Coast Conference victory of the 2026 season over the North Carolina Tar Heels (8-4, 1-1), 4-2, in Chapel Hill on Sunday.
In doubles play, Cal quickly jumped out to an advantage after Paris Pouatcha and Bernardo Munk Mesa put together an impressive 6-1 victory on court three. After falling on court one, the duo of Alex Aney and Fryderyk Lechno Wasiutynski clinched the doubles point for the Bears after they recorded a decisive 6-2 victory on court two.
With a 1-0 lead entering singles play, the Bears fell on courts two and three before Paris Pouatcha tallied Cal's second point of the day with a 6-2, 6-2 victory on court five. Then, on court four, Bernardo Munk Mesa fought back to claim a three-set court four victory to give Cal its third point of the day. Finally, on court one, Fryderyk Lechno Wasiutynski clawed back to force a third set, win and clinch the match for Cal.
