No. 15 Cal Falls To No. 6 Pepperdine 4-1

Johanne Svendsen — ranked 55th — won to remain unbeaten in singles.

The Golden Bears fell to 6-3 after the nonconference setback, while the Waves improved to 11-3.

Trailing 1-0 after dropping the doubles point, Cal fell behind 2-0 when
Anya Murthy retired from her Court-6 match while trailing 7-5.

Svendsen defeated 10th-ranked Anastasiia Grechkina 6-3, 6-2 at Court-2 singles to trim the Waves' lead to one at 2-1. The Cal freshman — who joined the Bears in January — improved her singles record to 4-0.

But Pepperdine won the next two matches, with Cal's 92nd-ranked
Naomi Xu falling to Duru Soke 6-3, 6-2 on Court 5 to end the day.

Cal resumes ACC action when it plays at No. 60 Boston College on Friday and at No. 61 Syracuse next Sunday.
