Munk Mesa Clinches Match With Eighth-Straight Victory

In its first away match in three weeks, the California Golden Bears (12-8, 4-3) picked up its fourth Atlantic Coast Conference victory of the 2026 season over the Louisville Cardinals (14-8, 3-4), 4-0, in Louisville on Friday.

In doubles play, Cal quickly gained the 1-0 advantage after it picked up wins on courts one and three. First, Bernardo Munk Mesa and Paris Pouatcha recorded a 6-3 victory on court three. Then, on court one, Timofey Stepanov and Fryderyk Lechno Wasiutynski cemented the doubles point with a decisive 6-2 win. The duo remained unbeaten in ACC doubles action.

With a 1-0 lead secured, the Bears left no doubt in singles play. Cal picked up three separate straight-set victories to sweep the Cardinals. First, on court five, Paris Pouatcha won, 6-4, 6-0 to give the Bears its second point. The win was Pouatcha's tenth-straight victory and he remains undefeated in ACC singles play. Then, on court two, Timofey Stepanov tallied his 97th career victory and gave the Bears its third point of the match with a 6-4, 6-3 win. Finally, on court four, Bernardo Munk Mesa collected the Bears fourth point after he won, 6-3, 6-1. Munk Mesa's match-sealing victory was his eight-straight win.
