Cal Comes Up Short At Clemson

Bears' Drop First-Ever Match Versus Tigers

In its third-straight match on the road, the California Golden Bears (12-10, 4-5) dropped its match to No. 38 Clemson (9-11, 4-5), 3-4, in Clemson on Thursday evening.

In doubles play, the Bears forced a winner-take-all scenario after Paris Pouatcha and Bernardo Munk Mesa recorded a 6-2 victory on court three. Despite winning on court three, Cal dropped the doubles point after losing on courts one and two.

Looking to climb back from an 0-1 deficit in singles play, the Bears quickly tied the match after Bernardo Munk Mesa picked up a straight-set victory on court four. Then, on court six, Lenn Luemkemann gave Cal its second point after he won, 6-1, 6-2. On court one, Fryderyk Lechno Wasiutynski gave Cal its third point after he won, 7-5, 6-2.

Despite its 3-2 lead, Cal surrendered points on courts two and three to give Clemson its third and fourth point.
