Cal Travels To Saint Mary’s For Regular-Season Finale

Bears, Gaels Meet In Moraga

California rugby will face off against Saint Mary's in its regular season finale Saturday. The Golden Bears and Gaels are set to kick off at 1 p.m. PT with a reserve-grade match to follow.
 
The Bears are coming off a bye week. Prior to that, they defeated Army 70-18 on March 14 as six different players scored 10 tries. Max Threlkeld led Cal with a hat trick while Oliver Newall and Oliver Teague scored two tries each.
 
Cal last played Saint Mary's in the 2025 D1A National Collegiate Championships semifinal in Berkeley, putting together a 38-27 victory. Returners Solomon Williams, Masi Koi, and Rand Santos scored tries in the victory, while returner Filip Edstrom went 4-of-5 on conversion kicks.
 
The Bears also met the Gaels last season in a regular season contest in Berkeley, a 48-45 victory. Santos, Koi, Williams, Edstrom, Threlkeld and returner Cade Crist scored tries in the high-scoring affair.
 
The last time the Bears played the Gaels in Moraga was in the 2024 D1A National Collegiate Championship quarterfinal, a 34-16 loss.
 
Saint Mary's is 15-0 this season with victories over Boston College, UC Santa Cruz, Long Beach State, UCSB, Santa Clara, East Palo Alto, Grand Canyon, Washington, Arizona, Lifewest, Sacramento State, Cal Poly, UCLA, UC Davis, and most recently defeated BYU 45-12 last weekend.
