No. 19 Bears Beat Cardinals 4-1

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The 19th-ranked California women's tennis team won its third straight ACC road match when Mille Johanna Moerk clinched a 4-1 victory over Louisville on Friday at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center.
 
The Golden Bears ran their record to 9-3 (6-1 ACC), while the Cardinals dropped to 9-8 (1-8).
 
Cal had a strong start in doubles, with the pair of Berta Passola Folch and Sophie Hernandez dominating Alice Otis and Lika Perersypkina 6-1 on Court 2. Sixty-fifth-ranked Mao Mushika and Johanne Svendsen clinched the doubles point with a 6-4 result over Berta Miret and Elena Noguero on Court 1.
 
Svendsen — ranked 16th — suffered her first singles loss of the season in a 6-3, 6-1 setback against Otis on Court 1 that tied the match 1-1. The Cal freshman now has a 7-1 singles record.
 
The Bears followed with three consecutive straight set wins. Naomi Xu — ranked 91st — began the run with a 6-2, 6-1 win victory over the Cardinals' Anshika Jaswal on Court 6, eighth-ranked Passola Folch beat Noguero 6-2, 6-3 on Court 2, and then Moerk bested Perersypkina 6-2, 6-2 on Court 5 to complete the match. The clinching win was the first in the freshman's Cal career.
 
The Bears next play their fourth consecutive conference road match at 70th-ranked Notre Dame on Sunday at 9 a.m. PT/noon ET.
