PAULSSON WINS FOURTH NEWCOMER OF THE WEEK RECOGNITION
Tonya Paulsson was named ACC Newcomer of the Week for the fourth time this season after Week 9, which is the sixth weekly conference honor awarded to a Golden Bear in 2026, with
Annalise Newman-Achee taking ACC Gymnast of the Week following Week 1 and
Sage Melkonian earning ACC Co-Specialist of the Week after Week 6.
Â
Paulsson set a new personal best in the all-around last weekend in the Bears' win at the Sacramento State Tri Meet. She took the gold in the all-around with a 39.500 overall score, in addition to event wins on uneven bars and floor exercise. It was her fourth gold and sixth time overall medaling in the all-around, keeping her streak of reaching the podium for the all-around in every meet she has competed on all four events in. She currently ties for 13th in the nation in the all-around with a 39.375 national qualifying score (NQS) and is the third-highest ranked gymnast in the West behind UCLA's Jordan Chiles and Stanford's Anna Roberts.
Â
Paulsson continues to shine on uneven bars this season, most recently collecting a 9.950 in Sacramento last Friday night as Cal's anchor on the event. It was Paulsson's second 9.950 bars score of the season and sixth that has gone 9.925 or higher in a competition. Individually, she ranks fourth nationally with a 9.930 NQS and she is the top gymnast in the West on the event.Â
Â
STICK CITY
Cal put together its strongest uneven bars rotation of the season at the Sac State Tri Meet, seeing all six Bears in the lineup stick their dismounts and compiling a 49.550 on the event, which is their highest single-event score of the season.
Miki Aderinto set the tone from the leadoff spot with a personal-best 9.925, before
Annalise Newman-Achee matched that score for her season-best bars routine from the third position.
Tonya Paulsson anchored with a career-high matching 9.950 to seal the event win. Five of the Bears' six gymnasts swinging bars in competition have an NQS that ranks in the top-100.
Â
ALL-AROUNDER ANNALISE
