Cal Heads To NCAA Zone E Championships
All 7 Divers To Compete Next Week
The California diving team heads to Flagstaff, Arizona, for the NCAA Zone E Championships that are scheduled for Monday-Wednesday at Wall Aquatic Center, hosted by Northern Arizona. Â
The event will determine who advances to the NCAA Championships later this month. All divers have a chance to compete in the 1-meter, 3-meter, and platform events. The top 18 finishers advance to the final round, where the top five female divers and top four male divers will be eligible to compete in the NCAA Championships. All preliminary scores will carry over to the final rounds to calculate final placement.Â
Last time out, the Golden Bears had a strong showing at their second ACC Championships. Geoffrey Vavitsas finished in second place in the platform dive with a final score of 395.70, which made him the first Cal diver to be on the podium since joining the conference. For the third straight year, Joshua Thai appeared in at least one conference final and competed in the 1-meter and 3-meter springboards at this year's ACC Championships. On the women's side, Violet Williamson had her first conference finals appearances in the 1-meter and platform dives. Ariana Drake also made her first conference finals appearance in the platform dive.Â
